About The Door

A Note from Alixx:

The Door is an organization that I am deeply passionate about, one that is partly responsible for inspiring my film in development, LOVE MUSIC SHELTER. Aside from the elderly, at risk and homeless youth are amongst the hardest hit demographic of COVID-19. Please see the below message from Eric Weingarten, CEO of The Door, and consider donating if you have the means (please let them know that Alixx sent you!)

The Door is uniquely and well positioned to respond to the needs of young adults and their families, because our model recognizes that poverty and risk are a complex condition and the cocktail to solving inequality is always a blended intervention. It’s never just jobs, it’s never just housing, it’s never just healthcare. That’s the perspective we bring: that you need to address every need, in a comprehensive and holistic way. As we work to get New York City back on its feet, that will be the difference we bring. If you would like to make a gift to help ensure The Door and Broome Street Academy can continue to provide high quality programs to teens and young adults, click here to make a difference today. On behalf of the entire team at The Door and Broome Street Academy THANK YOU!
— Eric Weingarten, Former CEO of The Door

The Door’s mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. Since 1972, The Door has helped a diverse and rapidly growing population of disconnected youth in New York City gain the tools they need to become successful, in school, work and in life. The Door is also focused on impacting the lives of young people throughout the city and, as such, has served as a model for other, similar organizations locally, nationally and internationally.

We know firsthand what an amazing organization The Door is. We are proud to support this organization in its mission to empower at-risk youth, bringing them off the streets and into safe learning environments where they can develop the skills they need to reach their greatest potential. We ask that you join us in lifting up The Door and its goals by donating to their cause, either monetarily or by volunteering your time and/or services.

Alixx Schottland has been a dedicated volunteer at The Door for many years, working with the young people in our runaway and homeless youth program. She brings her passion and knowledge about the young people she has met over the years to her film, which has the potential to bring urgently needed awareness to the realities of life on the street for teens and young adults. The Door is grateful that she will donate a portion of the proceeds to support our homeless youth.
— David Vincent, Former Executive Deputy Director at The Door
