It’s 2023 and according the Coalition for the Homeless, there are over 101,000 Homeless in New York City.

Homelessness in New York City has reached its highest levels since the Great Depression in the 1930s. It’s time that a film was made about this to bring awareness and create change.

It's hard enough navigating her teen years in NYC. Now, throw in that Nat is smart, talented and beautiful, yet homeless. The chance to survive with her mind, body and soul intact is near impossible. With the odds stacked against her, a homeless teen discovers that love and music will be her road to shelter and so much more.

Inspired by true events, Love Music Shelter is a story about a homeless teen, Nat, and her mother as they struggle to navigate the streets, shelter system and their dreams. Against all odds, Nat is accepted into a prestigious art school and must deal with the duality of attending a fancy charter school while living on the streets, homeless. She is embarrassed and tired, yet still hopeful and proud. Love Music Shelter is a story about hope, change and the power of believing in yourself.

Love Music Shelter strives to provoke changes in the system through national awareness. The film will employ presently and formerly homeless teens for work both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Those chosen to participate in the film will develop skills that they will be able to use in future careers. We will have a diverse cast performing in roles that reinforce positive role models for their community and promote their involvement in breaking down barriers that stereotypes and prejudices create.

The team, led by director Courtney Miller Jr. (Miller’s Award Winning Film Reparations), is determined to bring authentic and honest storytelling to the screen.

Love Music Shelter will entertain through creative storytelling and fresh music. Most importantly it will bring awareness to the growing homeless problem amongst adolescents. There is an opportunity for a few more key investors and celebrities to get involved to help make the difference for this forgotten population. After all, no one chooses to be homeless.

Our commitment is to donate a percentage of profits from the success of this film to help make shelters a safer more stable environment for homeless teens that find themselves in this impossible predicament.

Logistics & Philanthropic Mission

goals

Love Music Shelter will employ homeless, formerly homeless teens/young adults, and will feature them in roles in front of the camera, as well as teach them the technical aspects of filmmaking, thus providing them with life skills as well as work skills that will help them gain future employment in the film industry and beyond.

social impact

Inspired by true events and thoroughly researched by volunteering at The Door -www.door.org, our film Love Music Shelter will weave in real facts and statistics about what it means to be a homeless teenager in NYC. Through cinematic and relevantly beautiful story telling with an important message to share, we as producers will raise awareness and look to make a societal shift in the way teen homelessness around the country is viewed and ultimately provoke change in the shelter system.

charitable filmmaking

With a minimum film budget of 6 Million dollars we will have the ability to hire a few key celebrities, license hit songs, and engage producers with a proven track record that can capture the vision and the message of our film. Our objective is for Love Music Shelter to pay it forward by donating a percentage of profits from the success of the film to organizations like The Door and other homeless institutions. With these donations, our aim is to raise enough money to build a new model for safer Transitional shelters. If funds are not sufficient for this ambitious goal we will donate to The Door/other homeless institutions so they may invest as they see fit.
